"Be like Pita"

Have you ever failed at something and felt like you couldn't do it?

Then we want you to BE LIKE PITA.

This is a story about a boy who didn't do too well in a test at school. His circle of friends wanted to help him but it wasn't that easy.

Before you watch it, take a guess at what you think happened.

Lights, Camera, Action!

First Music Session

Today we had our first music session with our teacher. We were learning about musical terms. Our first task was to find all the letters around the classroom, some were hidden and others weren't. Once we found them all we had to unscramble the letters and figure out what the words were. Some of the words were hard, especially OSTINATO.

We were taught a song to help us learn what the different words mean. Today's words are

Here is a song that we learnt today about what these words mean

Fitness with Alesio

On Monday we met two of the Personal Trainers from GI Snap Fitness. They came in to meet with us and to let us know that they'll be coming back on Thursday to do some fun activities around being healthy and staying fit.

Today, Alesio came in and we were ready to get a good work out! We were so happy that the weather was sunny because we had our session outside.

We did lots of running, pushups, jumping, burpees and start jumps.

By the end of the session we were so tired but we were so glad we did it because we had lots of fun!

Thank you Alesio and Snap Fitness Glen Innes for coming into our class and working with us. We hope to see you again!

Here we are with Alesio, our trainer after we had our session with him

Film Angles

In Room 9, we are starting to make films all about our learning. We are a Manaiakalani School and the film festival is coming up. So when all the films are done teachers pick which film should get selected. And when they get selected all the manaikalani schools go to the Sylvia Park theater and watch other manaikalani school films.

We have been learning about camera angles, what they are, what they capture and why they're used.

Catherine made a slide of film angles and some photos and we hope you learn something from it when you shoot some videos.

We went to the farm

On Thursday, Room 9 went to Ambury Farm.

The first thing we got to see was the cows getting milked. This was great because we've been doing lots of learning about how milk is made. We answered all the questions the farmers asked confidently and even got to pat the cow. When the milk travelled through the tube it was really warm. That was a nice surprise.

Next we went to the shearing shed and saw the sheep being crutched. Crutching is when their bums get shaved. It gets rid of all the poo wool around their bum so that they don't get sick.

We then got to go out and see the rest of the farm. We feed some of the animals. The hardest part was when it started to RAIN!! It was cold and windy and we were freezing!

But we still had lots of fun!

Check out some of our pictures below.

It is very important to know about your puberty so we don't get confused of scared when we get it well we are growing up. Thank you to the puberty teacher for coming along and teaching us about growing up and how our bodies are changing.

4. From Grass to Glass - More maths

Today for Maths, we had to use our knowledge of reading rules and apply this to help solve
1. how much milk is made at each farm
2. the distance it takes from the farm to our tables

It was very tricky at first, but once we figured out that we had to READ and UNDERSTAND ALL the information, then it was more easier. Mrs Faalili encouraged us to keep trying to work it out.

It's a good thing we were allowed to use calculators - because that is A LOT of milk and A LOT of travelling!
