Phonics - Soft C

For phonics today we focused on the sound of the soft c. We learnt that the rule for the soft c are the vowels E I and the letter Y come after the letter c. This is what makes the sound a soft c. Here are some examples.

We had our Student Led Conferences this week. It was great fun being able to see our families come in and share our learning with them.

Here are some photos from Thursday.

Matariki Kites with Rm 3

For buddy class, we did some learning about Matariki, the Maori New Year. Together, we designed our own kites. We used kebab sticks, tape, black paper to make the kite and then used pastels (gold, white and silver) and read and white feathers to decorate them. Then we got to fly them. We had so much fun making and flying our kites.

TUTIRA MAI CHALLENGE

Our school entered the #tutiramai challenge. Miss Bowmar pieced everything together and sent it in. We had made it to the final phase!

We got to take 11 lucky students to the Heritage Hotel to represent our school in the final. We left school at 4:30pm and made our way to perform. Nerves were kicking it. Mr Shanks and Mafi decided to sing some songs and that helped calm our nerves.

When we got there we were amazed by how beautiful the hotel was. Then we were amazed at how many people were there. As we waited we became more and more excited.

Finally, it was time to go in the room and wait for our moment to perform. We sang loudly and with lots of pride! We were so proud of everyone, even the juniors that came.

Even though we didn't win, we felt like winners! We all got goody bags that has some treats for us inside!

We're so proud of everyone at GTS!

Go the All Blacks!
