Ava-May; Workhouse Musician

Part of our learning this term has been around identifying and using adjectives in writing. Ava-May has a description using adjectives for the writing task 'WORKHOUSE MUSICIAN'.

How many adjectives can you find?

One day this little boy he had no home so he found this place wear these people

used to live their and when they moved out he thought yeah I should move in here

because I have no home.

But he had no clothes so he said to himself maybe I can only wear these clothes

because I have no other clothes.

Then when he moved into the house he found this violin and he said may as well

practice violin cause that’s all will keep me occupied. So he found this bird when

he was looking for somewhere to live so he took care of him. He had to find food

everywhere for both of them. But until then they will do the exact same thing

everyday always find food and take care of his pet bird. By Ava-May

Samoan Language Week - Koko Alaisa

Today we learnt about a traditional Samoan breakfast. KOKO ALAISA.

We watched a video to help us learn about the samoan dish. This is Veni and he is a vlogger. We watched how he made Koko Alaisa. We then had to write the instructions based on the video.

Mrs Faalili, Ava-May, Uheina from Room 9 and Moe and Nadal from Room 8 made koko alaisa for the entire syndicate. That's about 70 students altogether.

Ingredients: Samoan Koko, Rice, Water and sugar to taste.

It didn't take very long to cook. And by the time it was ready to be served, Mrs Faalili forgot all about the ipad and we missed out on the photos of all of our team enjoying the deliciously hot koko alaisa.

Who are the strong females in your life? Comment down below.

We are different - but the same

This week, we have been learning about what makes us unique - but also, what we have in common with others in our class. We're really proud of our work because we know that we are special and our writing reflects that. One thing that we are really surprised about is that we have more in common with each other than we thought.

Check our writing in the slide deck below.

More writing fun - DIRECTIONS

Bitmoji ImagePart of our writing this week was about what IMPERATIVE VERBS are. We like to call them BOSSY WORDS because they tell us very strongly what to do e.g. TURN, POUR, MIX, GO STRAIGHT.

Today, we wrote directions for writing. We were given the task of writing a set of directions from a starting point to the library. After the writing we came back into class for the next instructions.

The fun part was when we had to swap books, be blindfolded and then follow the directions exactly in the hope that we will make it to the library without getting hurt.

Writing to come. But here are some photos.

Butter Making

This week we made butter. We had so much fun.

We made butter because we are learning to write instructions but also because we were learning about how the rates of reaction differ when there are other elements involved.

Here are some photos

Recount Writing - WW1

In Room 10, we've been working on adding more detail to our writing by using our senses and recrafting our sentences so that there is more than one idea in them.

We watched a short video called Canada's 100 days and we had to imagine as if we were there, a soldier battling for our country.

Some of us worked with Mrs Faalili to enhance our paragraphs and used visualisation to really think about what we could see and hear around us.

Here are some of the amazing drafts that some of the awesome students in Room 10 came up with.

Be sure to check out the individual blogs for more amazing recounts.

Detailed writing

This week, we have been working on adding detail to our writing.

We watched a short video about The Old Lady in the Junkyard and had to describe what she was doing. We had to make sure that each sentence told 3 pieces of information. We then had a sharing circle and had to share ONE of our sentences that has really good description.

Here they are
