Samoan Language Week Learning - UMU TIME

Today, we had a Samoan Umu at school. Mr Faalili and some other men, Mr Malo and Mr Asiata came and set up the umu on our courts.

They heated up the rocks before cooking any food.

They cooked taro, green banana, chicken and pig. A WHOLE ENTIRE PIG! Everything was wrapped in tin foil. The layers of the umu are 1. Hot rocks. 2. Tin foiled food. 3. More hot rocks. 4. Wet cardboard. The wet cardboard keeps the heat inside.

Mrs Faalili and some of the Senior Samoan girls made chopsuey for the whole school.

After lunch play the whole school met on the courts and watched the umu open. The senior boys helped take the rocks off and the food off the umu. The girs helped serve the food.

It was DELICIOUS!

Samoan Language Week - Koko Alaisa

Today we learnt about a traditional Samoan breakfast. KOKO ALAISA.

We watched a video to help us learn about the samoan dish. This is Veni and he is a vlogger. We watched how he made Koko Alaisa. We then had to write the instructions based on the video.

Mrs Faalili, Ava-May, Uheina from Room 9 and Moe and Nadal from Room 8 made koko alaisa for the entire syndicate. That's about 70 students altogether.

Ingredients: Samoan Koko, Rice, Water and sugar to taste.

It didn't take very long to cook. And by the time it was ready to be served, Mrs Faalili forgot all about the ipad and we missed out on the photos of all of our team enjoying the deliciously hot koko alaisa.

Lesson with Mr Victor

Today at 11:30, we had a lesson with Mr Victor. We talked about photography, angles and different types of shots. Our task from Mr Victor is to take photos of what we are doing in lockdown. It can be of family or our pets. This is a weird time we are going through and it will be something that we will talk about for a long time - so we're going to capture moments in time.
